Weather-related limitations imposed in two areas of Kazakhstan
The regional governments of Abai and East Kazakhstan have announced traffic restrictions on the Almaty-Taldykorgan-Ust-Kamenogorsk-Shemonaikha-Russian border due to deteriorating weather conditions.
The closures were implemented on March 14 at 18:00, affecting different sections of the road. In the East Kazakhstan region, the closure affects the section from km 1013 to km 1048. In the Abai region, the closure affects the section from km 971 to km 1013.
Specifically, the road in the affected section between the village of Kalbatau and the border of East Kazakhstan region is expected to reopen on March 15 at 08:00. The traffic restrictions in East Kazakhstan region affect the section from the border of Abai region to the turnoff to the village of Ulan.
Traffic has been restricted for all types of vehicles in both regions. Additional avalanches have occurred on the road in VKO, and snow is being blasted on the road due to the avalanches.
The authorities responsible for these road closures are the regional government administrations of the respective oblasts, established after the territorial division effective since June 8, 2022, following Presidential Decree No. 887.
No new information about the cause or duration of the traffic restrictions beyond March 15 at 08:00 has been provided. It is advised for travellers to check for updates and plan their journeys accordingly.
