Weather fluctuations hit Kazakhstan, with periods of intense heat followed by heavy rainfall

In August 2025, Kazakhstan is set for a dramatic shift in weather patterns, according to the latest forecasts. The country will experience a mix of intense heat, unstable weather, thunderstorms, heavy rains, hail, and dust storms, depending on the region and period of the month.

Heat patterns will dominate southern and southeastern Kazakhstan, with daytime temperatures often reaching between +36 to +41°C. Regions like Almaty and Zhetysu can expect soaring temperatures of +40+41°C, while Almaty, Zhambyl, and Zhetysu regions will experience scorching heat of +35+38°C. Heat waves with +41°C have already lasted for at least 3 days in early August, with the southern areas remaining hot and dry due to the influence of an anticyclone.

Conversely, unstable weather prevails especially in the northwest, north, east, and central parts of Kazakhstan. This is due to the passage of atmospheric fronts and a northwestern cyclone system, resulting in frequent rain and thunderstorms, sometimes accompanied by heavy rains, hail, squalls, and wind strengthening. Fog is also common during night and morning in northern and eastern parts. Heavy rains with hail are forecasted particularly in the northwest, north, and central regions around mid-August.

Temperature dynamics and regional variations are also significant. The west and southwest will see a drop in night temperatures from +18+28°C to +13+20°C, with daytime temperatures from severe heat +33+41°C lowering to +25+33°C during early August. The northwest, on the other hand, will experience a rise in night temperature from +7+20°C to +13+28°C, with daytime temperatures from +21+35°C to +27+38°C. The north, center, and east will fluctuate between +5+13°C to +12+20°C at night and +15+22°C to +25+35°C by day. Later in August, cooler conditions will prevail in the west, northwest, and north due to the cyclone, with highs dropping to +23…+31°C in the west and +18…+28°C in the northwest during August 12-14, while the south remains warmer (up to +37°C).

Wind intensifies countrywide, with dust storms forecast mainly in the southern regions during the daytime. The weather forecast for August 9, 10, and 11 in Kazakhstan is provided by Kazhydromet meteorologists, who also warn of a high to extremely high fire threat across many parts of Kazakhstan in August, including Turkistan, Kyzylorda, West Kazakhstan, Almaty, and surrounding areas.

Overall, rainfall is expected to be normal in Kazakhstan during August 2025, but the north and east may receive more. Other regions in Kazakhstan will see rain and temperature fluctuations during August 2025. Wind will strengthen across Kazakhstan for the next three days, and fog is expected in the northwest, north, center, and east of Kazakhstan during the night and morning hours for the next three days. Elsewhere in Kazakhstan, temperatures are expected to rise gradually during August 2025. Some regions in Kazakhstan will experience heat and dryness during August 2025.

Weather-forecasting predicts a mixture of intense heat, unstable weather, thunderstorms, heavy rains, hail, and dust storms in Kazakhstan during August 2025, depending on the region and period of the month. The weather patterns are expected to be dominated by heat in southern and southeastern Kazakhstan, while the northwest, north, east, and central parts will experience unstable weather with frequent rain and thunderstorms, sometimes accompanied by heavy rains, hail, and wind strengthening.
