Weather Alert in Punjab: Anticipate Dry Spells Interspersed with Brief Rainfall

Headline: Monsoon Season Officially Ends in Punjab, Residents Brace for Hot and Sunny Weather

The monsoon season has officially come to an end in the state of Punjab, as the southwest monsoon withdrew from parts of the region on Wednesday. This marks the end of the monsoon season, which brings much-needed rainfall to the region.

Temperatures in most Punjab districts ranged between 25°C and 36°C on Wednesday, with Ludhiana reaching 34°C and Amritsar touching 35°C in the afternoon. Gentle winds were blowing from the southeast at 3-5 mph, providing some relief from the heat.

Residents can expect hot and sunny weather for the rest of the month, as maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 37-38°C from September 19-30. The UV index in Punjab stood high at 7 on Wednesday, requiring sun protection during peak daytime hours.

The weather forecast for the remainder of September shows predominantly sunny conditions, with isolated places in northern regions experiencing brief thundershowers. However, rainfall, if it occurs, will be light to moderate intensity and will last only a few hours.

In the northern districts like Ludhiana and Gurdaspur, rain is unlikely after the monsoon has retreated, as these areas typically receive most of their rainfall during the monsoon season. Dry conditions in Punjab have helped maintain clearer skies, but dust levels may rise without rainfall to settle particles.

Humidity levels in Punjab remained moderate at 53-60% on Wednesday. The air quality across major cities in Punjab showed moderate levels on September 17, with Chandigarh recording an AQI of 85 and Jalandhar at an AQI of 92.

Farmers should prepare for dry harvesting conditions suitable for kharif crop collection, as the monsoon withdrawal has made way for hot and dry weather. Gusty winds during these thundershowers may reach up to 30-40 kmph, so farmers should take necessary precautions to ensure their crops are protected.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take adequate sun protection measures throughout the remaining month to protect themselves from the heat. Light showers are possible on Thursday, September 18, particularly in northern Punjab districts like Ludhiana, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, and Hoshiarpur.
