Iceland Braces for Yellow Weather Warning Tonight

The Icelandic Meteorological Office has issued a third yellow weather warning for the country, advising caution due to expected windy and rainy conditions. The warning is currently in effect for Faxaflói, South Iceland, and the Central Highlands, with all warnings expected to expire between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. tonight.

In Faxaflói, southeasterly winds between 13 and 18 meters per second combined with substantial rainfall are forecasted. The public is advised to secure loose objects and be mindful of the risk of tents blowing away. The yellow warning for Faxafloí takes effect at 6 p.m.

Similar conditions apply in South Iceland and the Central Highlands, with rain showers forecasted mainly in the south and west regions, but fair weather expected in the northeast and east.

Temperatures range from about 10 to 20 °C, with the warmest temperatures in the northeast. However, the south where these warnings apply is experiencing rain and wind.

The yellow weather warning for South Iceland and the Central Highlands takes effect at 9 p.m. Sharp wind gusts are expected near mountains, and the forecast for tonight includes strong winds and heavy rain.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office is the issuing authority for these weather warnings. Although no specific time frame for the weather events has been provided in the current report, yellow weather warnings in Iceland typically last until the adverse weather subsides, often around a day or two unless further updates arise.

It is essential to exercise caution, particularly related to wind hazards like unsecured tents, across Faxaflói, South Iceland, and the Central Highlands at least through the immediate next day or until official updates indicate changes. Stay tuned for further updates from the Icelandic Meteorological Office.
