In a contentious move, the Sydney Roosters boss Nick Politis has deviated from his zero-tolerance stance on drugs to retain Victor Radley, a pivotal player, at the NRL club. The decision comes amidst an investigation involving Radley, his former teammate Brandon Smith, and an individual accused of drug dealing.

Radley, 27, is currently serving a 10-game suspension, the most severe imposed on a Sydney Roosters player in the club's history dating back to 1908. Despite the suspension, Radley's future with the Roosters beyond the 2026 NRL season remains secure.

The alleged incident occurred during a golf trip at Queensland's Sunshine Coast in June. However, it's crucial to note that Radley has not been charged with any offence related to the investigation.

In a statement, Radley apologized to the club, teammates, sponsors, members, and fans for the unwanted attention he has brought on the Roosters. He also announced that he will donate $30,000 to cancer research at St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney as part of his suspension.

Nick Politis stated that the option one to deal with the situation was to dismiss Radley, but there is no proof that he snorted cocaine. The club boss admitted that Radley's talent and importance to the team outweighed the usual enforcement of the zero-tolerance policy.

Meanwhile, Brisbane star Ezra Mam was banned for nine games after driving with cocaine in his system and without a licence. Mam was fined a total of $120,000 jointly by the NRL and Broncos.

England coach Shaun Wane has confirmed he will pick Radley for the Ashes series if he is fit and healthy. However, Radley has agreed not to attend the club's presentation night on Thursday at Allianz Stadium.

The Daily Mail contacted the Rugby League Players Association (RLPA) for comment regarding Radley's sanction, but no official statement has been released as of yet.

Radley's case serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the values and rules of the sport, even in the face of personal challenges. The NRL and its clubs continue to strive towards maintaining a clean and fair environment for all players and fans.
