Things are gettin' tense in Cologne, baby! The city's in a pickle 'cause they found three darn bombs from World War II on June 2nd. That's why about 20,500 people'll be evacuated from the danger zone on June 4th, makin' it the biggest evacuation since the end of the war.
To keep folks informed, West German Broadcasting Corporation (WDR) is airin' special broadcasts of their "WDR aktuell" program the whole day. They've got a ten-minute one lined up for 8:00 AM, another at 10:00 AM, and another at 1:50 PM. And there'll be a "WDR aktuell" segment during an episode of "Hier und heute" starting at 5:00 PM.
As for RTL and n-tv, they're also affected by this mess. RTL confirmed that "Punkt 6" and "Punkt 7" will still air from the studio in Cologne-Deutz in the mornin'. But "Punkt 8" won't be airin'. Instead, they'll replay "Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten" from 8:00 AM. The building'll be evacuated by 8:00 AM, and as many as 4,500 RTL employees'll work from a mobile office. The rest of their shows will be pre-recorded to keep things runnin' smooth. And n-tv's producin' live from Cologne-Ossendorf instead of the usual 7:00 AM start time.
Now, the city of Cologne revealed that the bombs were found during excavation work in Cologne-Deutz on June 2nd. They plan to cordon off and evacuate a 1,000-meter radius startin' at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, hopin' the defusin' process can be completed by the end of the day.
But listen, this ain't nothin' new, really. It happens from time to time, you find bombs from the ol' war. There's lotsa unexploded ordnance still buried out there. So everyone play it cool, follow the authorities' instructions, and stay safe, y'hear? Remember, curiosity killed the cat! 😸
