Latest on Gittens' Future: Chelsea Deal Seemingly in Sight, While Bayern Bids Remain Unconfirmed
Bayern meeting denial by Watzke; Possible transfer of Gittens to Chelsea? - Watzke denies having a meeting with Bayern Munich, while Gittens is currently at Chelsea Football Club.
Intriguing developments are lurking in the shadows regarding the fate of promising Borussia Dortmund winger, Jamie Gittens. Although FC Bayern Munich has expressed its interest, it appears that English Premier League powerhouse, FC Chelsea, might seal a lengthycontract with the English U21 international, as per sports outlet "The Athletic".
Rumors circulate that Gittens is poised to ink a seven-year pact with the Premier League club. Negotiations between BVB and Chelsea apparently blossomed due to both teams' participation in the Club World Cup. This potentially leaves FC Bayern out in the cold.
BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has categorically denied a reported meeting with Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl in the whirlwind surrounding Gittens. "Nope. That report is pure fabrication," Watzke asserted to Sky TV, quelling speculation about Bayern's pursuit of Gittens. Previously, Dortmund's sporting director Sebastian Kehl had also denied any contact with Eberl.
Eberl left the Club World Cup following Munich's first game to pursue potential transfers at home. Bayern is aggressively seeking a winger.
Gittens' future with BVB seemed to have narrowed after Chelsea had difficulty striking a deal with Dortmund before the Club World Cup. Chelsea refused to shell out the 60 million euros demanded by Dortmund, but now sources suggest that the asking price may have dropped to around €65 million.
Ricken advises against underselling Gittens
Eberl's departure for home to drive potential transfers stirs anticipation. With Gittens seemingly up for grabs, both Bayern and other potential interested parties wait with bated breath. A door reportedly reopened for Gittens at Chelsea due to the impasse, but with other clubs watching closely.
When asked about Gittens, BVB boss Lars Ricken told Sky: "His connection with the club is palpable – even if the return to Chelsea ultimately didn't transpire. Granted, there was an offer, but it came in too late for us to respond." A deal must benefit all parties involved, Ricken reiterated. "We're not known for selling our players cheaply, and that goes for Jamie too."
