A Preeminent Scoop: The Water Crusade in Abuja's Satellite Towns
Water Supply to Abuja Satellite Towns Assured by Wike
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), turns the spotlight on President Bola Tinubu's unwavering commitment to ironing out water woes in Abuja's satellite towns.
According to our sources, Wike will attest that the President is not merely interested in lofty roads but equally keen on ensuring social amenities bless every community nestled within the capital city.
Following an inspection tour of Abuja on a Friday, Wike shed light on a recent visit to China. In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, *Lere Olayinka, Wike divulged that the trek to the Far East was aimed at finalizing talks with China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group officials regarding water projects.
From the grapevine, the FCT administration pens a Memorandum of Understanding with CGCOC to deliver water to satellite towns. This expedient follows a promise Tinubu made to unleash the Abuja City Water Supply, a piece of which will roll out along Airport Road during his second year in office.
Behind closed doors, Tinubu has expressed his fervor for making clean water accessible to ALL residents in Abuja.
"This is a critical project for Mr. President. As we speak, Mr. President has allocated part of the funding for the satellite towns in the National Budget, which has been approved," Wike shared.
He was also quick to mention that the water project's budget has been incorporated into the FCT's Statutory Budget, now awaiting the National Assembly's blessing.
So, what can the enthusiastic residents of Bwari, Karu, and a slice of Kubwa anticipate? Wake up, for the water revamp looms large. The procurement process is underway, with the CGC company, executor of the Greater Abuja Water Supply, set to oversee the project.
Wike heaps praise on Tinubu for his resolute support for FCT Administration, paving the way for impactful projects. "When we refer to projects, it doesn't mean only infrastructure endeavors. Education and healthcare sectors are part of the mix, with a noteworthy investment in educational infrastructure," he clarifies.
An astonishing N140 billion has been earmarked for capital projects in the education sector alone, in the forthcoming FCT Statutory Budget, according to Wike.
His message? Completion, not abandonment, is a priority. "Our plan is not to initiate new projects but to complete the ongoing ones, bringing life to those left in the lurch," he reassured.
