Watching schedule disruption for soap operas - weekly viewing times for EastEnders, Emmerdale, and Coronation Street
This summer, viewers of popular British soap operas may notice some changes in their usual viewing schedules, as both the Women's Euros 2025 and Wimbledon 2025 take centre stage. These temporary adjustments are due to the priority given to sports broadcasting during these major tournaments.
EastEnders, a long-running soap opera on BBC One, will see significant changes to its schedule. For the week starting June 30 and July 1, there will be two double bills on Monday and Tuesday at 7pm on BBC Two instead of the usual Monday to Thursday 7:30pm slot on BBC One. No episodes will air on Wednesday and Thursday that week. From July 14, Monday and Tuesday episodes will air as normal at 7:30pm, but there will also be a second episode on Tuesday at 8pm. The remaining episodes that week will air variably on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday depending on the Women's Euros quarter-final match broadcasts.
Coronation Street, another staple of British television, will also experience changes. The soap opera, which airs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8pm for one-hour episodes, will air as usual on Monday, June 30, and Wednesday, July 2. However, there will be no episode on Friday, July 4. Episodes remain available on ITVX from 7am on airing days. After the Women's Euros break, it will return to normal schedules.
Emmerdale, shown on ITV1, will also be affected. The soap opera, which airs half-hour episodes on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7:30pm, and one-hour on Thursdays at 7:30pm, will air normally on Monday, June 30, and Wednesday, July 2. An extended hour-long episode will air on Tuesday, July 1, from 7pm to 8pm. There will be no episodes on Thursday, July 3, and Friday, July 4. Episodes are available on ITVX from 7am on airing days. Emmerdale is temporarily pulled from ITV screens on some days to accommodate football coverage.
In light of these changes, viewers are advised to check the TV Guide for more information on soap opera schedules. It's important to note that these changes are temporary and are made to accommodate the sporting events. Viewers can still catch their favourite soaps, just at different times or on different channels during the tournament period.
