The 20th edition of the World Athletics Championships is set to take place in Tokyo from September 13 to 21, 2025. This prestigious event, first held in Helsinki in 1983, will witness the participation of more than 2,000 athletes from 200 national delegations.

Tokyo will once again host the championships, having previously done so in 1991. The event will feature 49 events, with 147 medals up for grabs across these competitions.

Spain will be represented by 56 athletes, including 30 women and 26 men. Notable athletes to watch out for include Miguel Ángel López, the most experienced Spanish athlete, having participated in seven World Championships, and Esther Guerrero, who will serve as one of the captains of the Spanish team.

The triple jump is one of the events with the highest medal prospects for Spanish athletes. Reigning Spanish champion, Jordan Díaz, is unfortunately injured and will not compete. However, the reigning world champion is expected to be Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas, the current world record holder, but Spain's Esther Guerrero remains a strong contender.

Other Spanish athletes to look out for include Diego Casas, who will participate in the Discus (M) Qualification, and Paul McGrath, Diego García Carrera, and Álvaro López, who will compete in the 20 km walk (M). The 20 km walk (W) will feature Maria Pérez, Antía Chamosa, Paula Juárez, and Cristina Montesinos.

The championships will also feature reigning world champions, Olympic champions, and Diamond League winners. Spectators can catch the action live on Teledeporte and via streaming on Play. For the latest news and updates, visit website.es.
