Washington Commanders Training Camp Notable Names to Monitor
The Washington Commanders have been busy shuffling their roster during the offseason, welcoming newcomers and bidding farewell to some familiar faces.
Among the new additions are wide receiver Deebo Samuel, offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil, defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw, and Josh Conerly Jr., who are set to make their debuts with the team. Samuel, an explosive wideout, could have the opportunity to rack up big numbers alongside second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels. Tunsil, acquired in a trade with the Houston Texans, will protect Daniels' blind side from the left tackle position.
Meanwhile, Washington said goodbye to wide receiver Dyami Brown and cornerback Benjamin St-Juste. To fill the void, the Commanders brought in Michael Gallup and Jonathan Jones, respectively.
Javon Kinlaw, a defensive tackle, signed a $45 million contract with $30 million guaranteed and is expected to play a major role in the team's defensive line. Washington also signed former New Orleans Saints safety Will Harris to replace Jeremy Chinn, who ranked second on the team in total tackles and fourth in tackles for loss last season.
Head coach Ron Rivera chose not to re-sign longtime defensive tackle Jonathan Allen due to his hefty price tag and age. Allen signed a 3-year, $51 million contract with the Vikings.
The Commanders' training camp is scheduled to begin on July 22, giving the newcomers a chance to integrate with the already-established nucleus of the team. Rookies have already reported, and veterans will join them soon.
In addition, the Commanders announced open practice dates for fans and season ticket holders, offering a sneak peek into the team's preparations for the upcoming season. The Commanders are hoping their offseason moves, paired with an established nucleus, can recreate some of last season's magic and more.
It's important to note that Deebo Samuel did not play for the Washington Commanders during the 2024 NFL season. He spent the season with the San Francisco 49ers, where he recorded 51 receptions for 670 receiving yards, among other stats. Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders in the 2025 offseason, so his 2025 stats will be his first with Washington, not 2024.
