Warrington Bolsters Flood Management with Intelligent Warning Systems

Warrington Borough Council has fortified its flood management strategy by installing smart warning systems on Hawleys Lane and Burford Lane. The new systems aim to safeguard residents and property by deterring drivers from entering flood waters.

The council can now remotely oversee and control the flood warning systems. When flooding occurs, push notifications are sent to alert authorities. The systems feature LED Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS) and inputs to traffic signal controllers, which display warning messages and turn traffic signals red to discourage drivers from entering flooded areas.

These automated systems are part of a growing trend in British cities and towns, with companies like Siemens, GE, Hydro International, Aquascene, and specialized local providers often involved in such projects. However, as of December 2023, there's no public information on which company installed Warrington's systems, as the project was still future-dated in 2025.

Warrington Borough Council's investment in intelligent flood warning systems underscores its dedication to protecting residents and property. While the specific provider of these systems remains unknown, the council's ability to remotely manage and monitor the warnings ensures swift action in case of flooding.
