Warnings issued by India's embassy in Dublin due to heightened instances of violent assaults in Ireland

In recent times, the State of Ireland has witnessed a 12% increase in hate-related incidents, with most of these incidents targeting victims based on their ethnicity or nationality, according to An Garda Síochána. This alarming trend has led to the Indian embassy in Dublin issuing a security advisory, urging Indians to take reasonable precautions for their personal safety and avoid deserted areas, especially during odd hours.

The advisory also includes an emergency number for assistance. An Garda Síochána, the Irish police force, takes hate crime very seriously. Each offence is professionally investigated, and victims are supported during the criminal justice process.

The recent increase in physical attacks against Indian citizens has been a cause for concern. Key incidents include a brutal racist assault on July 19, 2025, in Tallaght, Dublin, where an Indian man was stabbed multiple times in the face, stripped naked, and left injured for over an hour. This incident sparked widespread protests and calls for justice.

Another recent case involves a 32-year-old Indian-origin man, Santosh Yadav, who was attacked by a group of six teenagers in Dublin, sustaining a fractured cheekbone. Yet another incident involved a 40-year-old Indian man who was beaten and stripped by teenagers. These attacks have raised significant alarm within the Indian community and among wider Irish society, leading to public demonstrations against racism.

The Indian embassy continues to provide emergency contact information to affected Indians in Ireland and encourages vigilance. The attacks have drawn more than 15,000 signatures to an online petition demanding justice. Indians constitute the largest non-EU immigrant group in Ireland, with significant contributions to the IT and healthcare sectors, heightening concerns for their safety amid these rising hate crimes.

It is important to note that hate-related crime is underreported, according to An Garda Síochána. Indians in Ireland have reported other attacks that have not been reported to gardaí but were shared on community WhatsApp groups. For instance, two weeks ago, an Indian man was attacked in Tallaght by a group that stripped him of some of his clothing and subjected him to a beating.

The attack occurred while the victim was walking to the Vinayaka Hindu temple in Kingswood, following a Google Maps route. The attackers taunted the victim and questioned why he had come to Ireland before setting upon him. An Garda Síochána encourages any victim of any crime to report this to An Garda Síochána, including any indication that the crime may have a hate motivation.

The Indian community in Ireland is urged to remain vigilant and report any incidents to the authorities. The Irish authorities are investigating these incidents as potential hate crimes and are in communication with the Indian embassy, which is actively coordinating with Irish officials regarding these attacks.

Politics and general news outlets have been discussing the rise in hate-related incidents targeting Indians in Ireland, with war-and-conflicts and crime-and-justice being significant points of focus. An Garda Síochána, Ireland's police force, is investigating these incidents as potential hate crimes, taking them seriously and professionally investigating each offence while supporting victims during the criminal justice process.
