In the ongoing collective bargaining dispute, Verdi is causing a ruckus at Rostock University Medical Center. They've imposed restrictions, reducing surgeries to weekend levels, according to unionist Friedrich Gottschewski. With around 1000 protesters, including library staff and employees from other universities, the strike participation was deemed satisfactory by Gottschewski. The demonstration started at Ostsee Stadium and continued until late evening shift at the university hospitals.
Verdi is pushing for an income boost of 10.5% or at least 500 euros over a year, affecting 48,775 state employees and 2,000 municipal civil servants. Negotiations are set to continue in Potsdam, also involving research facilities, road construction administrations, and state offices. Previously, thousands of employees at university hospitals in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania hit the streets for higher wages back in November.
The United Services Union, a sister organization of Verdi, has shown solidarity with the ongoing conflict in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The restriction of hospital operations due to the warning strike has ignited discussions about salary adjustments for the police sector. The Public Service Unions in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have threatened to escalate their actions if their demands for wage increases and better working conditions aren't met.
