Bread Bakers in Eisleben and Nordhausen Strike Again
Once more, workers at Aryzta's wholesale bakery in Eisleben and Nordhausen have taken a stand. Over 600 employees participated in this warning strike, as announced by the Food, Beverages, and Catering Union (NGG) this past Monday. The majority of production lines came to a halt as a result. The union stated that the cause for this second strike within a month is the slow progression of wage negotiations. Topics under negotiation include enhanced bonuses, a thirteenth salary, more vacation days, and alleviation for shift work.
Aryzta boasts its position as the European market leader in frozen baked goods. Among other products, the company manufactures rolls and various baked goods for major retail chains and the food service sector. About 1200 employees work at the Eisleben site, and 165 are employed at Nordhausen, according to the NGG. The union alleges that Aryzta unexpectedly ended negotiations, with the next round scheduled for next week (December 12).
