Warning signals of upcoming summer's arrival are apparent soon.
Summer Heat Arrives Across Germany This Weekend, Spain to Reach 40°C
Germany will experience a warmer weekend as summer approaches, with temperatures peaking at 30°C in some regions, according to meteorological forecasts. The long weekend, starting with Ascension Day, promises a more summerlike atmosphere, albeit with some chances of thunderstorms in certain areas.
Bjoern Alexander, meteorologist, reports that Spain will see even hotter temperatures, with parts of the country reaching the 40-degree mark. Such heat could make for an enjoyable holiday for those seeking a warmer climate, though travelers need to be prepared for local heat thunderstorms, which may provide temporary relief.
Central and eastern Mediterranean regions will also experience warm temperatures, but there will be more frequent showers and thunderstorms in some areas, potentially accompanied by severe weather warnings. Those opting to spend the long weekend at the German or Dutch coasts can expect cooler and noticeably fresher values, approximately 16 to 21°C.
Water temperatures in the North and Baltic Seas are currently around 13 to 15°C, while lakes range from up to 16 or 17°C. Southern Mediterranean regions, particularly in the eastern and southern areas toward North Africa, have warmer values, often around 18 to 22°C.
For those staying at home, the weather is set to improve after a turbulent Wednesday. Although rain and thunderstorms may persist in some areas, the rest of the country will generally experience better, warmer conditions. Ascension Day will see some showers between the Alps and the Ore Mountains, with the Baltic Sea and the Upper Rhine regions experiencing early summer values of 22 to 24°C.
Temperatures will further rise on Friday and the weekend, with peak temperatures potentially reaching 30°C in the Upper Rhine region. The northwest will see cooling around 20°C due to sea breezes. By Sunday, temperatures will range from 20 to 25°C in the northwest and 25 to 30°C in the south and east.
The hottest temperatures of the year so far have been recorded in Waghäusel-Kirrlach with 30.4°C and Ohlsbach with 30.1°C, both in Baden-Württemberg on May 2nd. The 30-degree mark has not been reached elsewhere this year.
Regarding the long-term outlook for the month of June, the weather is expected to be more unstable, with a strong indication of continued summery showers and thunderstorms interspersed with sunny hot spells.
For travelers to Spain, light, breathable clothing, sufficient hydration, sunscreen, and hats are advised. Outdoor activities should be planned for cooler parts of the day to avoid the hottest temperatures. With temperatures projected to range between 34 and 40°C in Spain, it is particularly important to stay well-prepared and informed about potential weather events.
In other southern European regions, such as Croatia, warmer and drier conditions are expected to emerge as June approaches, especially in coastal areas. Travelers are encouraged to check local weather forecasts for the latest updates and relevant travel advisories.
