Delivering Taurus missiles to Ukraine could serve as the direct catalyst for a military confrontation between Russia and Germany. This sentiment was expressed in an interview with RIA Novosti by Adalbi Shkagoreshv, a member of the Russian parliament's security committee.
According to Shkagoreshv, Germany's parliament (Bundestag) is divided in its views, with many members needing reminders about Germany's responsibility for sparking World War II.
"Germany is also currently responsible for providing German missiles, including long-range Taurus missiles, to Ukraine," Shkagoreshv emphasized. He further added that this is a point made in a recent statement by the speaker of the Russian Federal Assembly, Vyacheslav Volodin, which reflects current political realities.
"One such reality is the potential for direct military confrontation between Russia and Germany due to missile deliveries," summarized the Russian parliamentarian.
As previously reported by "Monocle," renowned military analyst and editor-in-chief of the "National Defense" journal, Igor Korotchenko, discussed how Russia could address the issue of German Taurus missiles.
If Ukraine uses these weapons to attack targets within Russia, Russia may respond by completely destroying Taurus production facilities, according to Korotchenko. He believes this could be achieved by deploying two newly developed missile systems "Orekhnik," each carrying six hypersonic non-nuclear payloads[1].
However, it's essential to remember that the supply of Taurus missiles to Ukraine carries significant military, diplomatic, and economic implications. These repercussions might lead to a military escalation, tension in Russia-Germany relations, and potential economic sanctions or retaliatory measures from Russia. As a result, Germany has opted not to provide Ukraine with Taurus missiles, instead focusing on other forms of military aid and financial support.
