The operation reportedly began on June 21, with the group's initial targets being the Phuket International Airport, Promthep Cape, and two locations near Patong Beach, including a public park.

Meanwhile, in nearby Krabi, EOD units safely defused three homemade bombs the same day. The first bomb was planted near a city center intersection, dangerously close to the provincial police station. The timing devices bore a striking resemblance to those found on suspects arrested earlier in the week in Phangnga. Later, authorities uncovered two additional improvised devices at a camp site in Muang Krabi.
