Preview of the Upcoming Weekend's Weather Across Europe
On the horizon, warmer temperatures are forecast to emerge for the extended weekend, starting from Ascension Day. While some regions in Germany are expected to surpass 20 degrees, thunderstorms may also occur in certain areas.
As reported by ntv.de, those seeking a hotter summer experience may find it in the southern parts of Europe, as some Spanish regions could approach temperatures as high as 40 degrees this weekend. Meanwhile, other central and eastern Mediterranean locations will remain warm but could experience more frequent showers and thunderstorms.
Individuals preferring coastlines within Germany or the Netherlands can anticipate fresher temperatures around 16 to 21 degrees. The water temperatures of the North and Baltic Seas currently range from 13 to 15 degrees, and lakes have temperatures around 16 to 17 degrees.
After a relatively turbulent Wednesday, the weather over the long weekend is anticipated to be less stormy and significantly warmer compared to the recent days. Ascension Day will start with showers between the Alps and Ore Mountains, which may persist later in the west and northwest. Throughout the rest of the country, forecasts indicate mainly dry and partly sunny conditions.
Temperatures could reach early summer values of 22 to 24 degrees at the Upper Rhine, with 15 to 19 degrees elsewhere. Notably, winds are predicted to significantly decrease. By Friday and the weekend, temperatures will continue to rise, reaching 20 to 25 degrees in most areas, and up to 27 or even 30 degrees along the Upper Rhine.
Saturday is expected to bring peak temperatures around 25 degrees, reaching up to 30 degrees in the Upper Rhine area. Coastal areas with sea breezes will average around 20 degrees. Sunday is foreseen to experience a slight cooling in the northwest to temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees, while remaining 25 to 30 degrees in the south and east.
It's worth noting that the hottest temperatures of the year thus far have been recorded at Waghäusel-Kirrlach with 30.4 degrees and Ohlsbach with 30.1 degrees, both measurements taken in Baden-Württemberg on May 2nd. Elsewhere, the 30-degree mark has yet to be reached this year.
Looking into the future, unstable weather patterns with updated temperature records are expected for June. Overall, the forecast suggests more unstable variants with showers, thunderstorms, and sunny hot phases in between. In southern Europe, particularly in Spain, cool and wet conditions have been prevalent due to an unsettled season since September 2024. However, warming and drying trends are beginning to show towards the eastern parts of the region as May rains are anticipated to end around May 25-31.

I'm not sure if we can predict the exact weather for the entire Europe next weekend, as the forecast indicates warm temperatures in some regions but also potential thunderstorms in others.
Despite the weather-forecasting indicating warmer temperatures, it seems that individuals in the southern parts of Europe, especially in Spain, may have to wait a bit longer to experience temperatures as high as 40 degrees.
