Warm weather and sunny days are rapidly approaching.
Ascension Day Weekend to Witness Summer-like Weather Across Germany
Starting this weekend, Germany can look forward to a more summery atmosphere as temperatures rise above 20°C in certain regions. However, the arrival of summer will not be without a few showers and thunderstorms in some areas, according to meteorologist Björn Alexander.
In Southern Europe, the heat is quite intense, with parts of Spain teetering around the 40°C mark this weekend. Despite the warmth, local heat thunderstorms provide some respite. The central and eastern Mediterranean are also experiencing summery temperatures, although the frequency of showers and thunderstorms is higher, with some areas under severe weather warnings.
Alternatively, those preferring the German or Dutch coasts for the long weekend can expect cooler temperatures around 16 to 21°C. The North and Baltic Seas currently boast water temperatures of 13 to 15°C, with lakes ranging from 16 to 17°C.
As for those staying home, the weather is expected to improve significantly compared to the last few days. While showers and thunderstorms will still be present, the upcoming weekend is anticipated to be warmer and less turbulent.
After a chilly run, conditions will improve on Friday and the weekend, with more sunshine from the southwest while the east still has some remaining shower clouds. This increase in sunshine, combined with Spanish warm air, will lead to temperatures rising to 20 to 25°C, up to 27°C at the Upper Rhine, and possibly even up to 30°C.
On Saturday, temperatures may reach a peak of around 25°C, with 30°C possible in the Upper Rhine region. Sea breezes will keep temperatures around 20°C cooler along the coast. On Sunday, temperatures will cool slightly in the northwest to 20 to 25°C, while the south and east will continue to experience temperatures of 25 to 30°C.
Currently, the highest temperatures of the year so far are held by Waghäusel-Kirrlach, which measured 30.4°C, and Ohlsbach, with 30.1°C, both in Baden-Württemberg on May 2nd. The 30-degree mark has not been reached anywhere else this year.
Looking ahead, the start of summer on Sunday may signal the beginning of a hot season. Current trends indicate a likely mix of summer showers and thunderstorms with sunny, hot phases in between, according to long-term forecasts.
For travelers heading to Southern Europe, it is essential to be prepared for heat stress, especially during the day. Sun protection, staying hydrated, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat are advised. Additionally, the ongoing dry spell increases the risk of wildfires in some regions, so caution is recommended in rural and forested areas and when following local advisories or restrictions on open flames. In cities and regions with less rain and more stable air, air quality might be lower due to accumulated pollutants and dust. Finally, while widespread storms are not expected, localized thunderstorms can occur, bringing short, intense rain and strong winds.

I'm not sure about the exact weather conditions next week, but according to the current forecast, temperatures across Germany may rise into the 20s or even touch 30°C, influenced by the arrival of summer-like weather. However, weather-forecasting also predicts showers and thunderstorms in some areas over the same period.
