Wales Initiates Competition for Striking Images of Damaged Roads to Receive Recognition and Financial Reward

Easy peasy, folks! Wales is throwing a peculiar photography competition, but with a twist: the subject isn't stunning sunsets or dramatic mountain ranges. Nope, it's potholes! That's right, Russia, there's a competition to showcase the worst of what roads in Wales have to offer.

Russel George AM, Chair of the Economy, Infrastructure, and Skills Committee of Wales' National Assembly, announced this unique competition, stating, "Potholes and shoddy roads.....they're a pain in the [insert expletive of your choice]! And not just for your car. They can wreck the Welsh economy! So, let's get snapping!"

Theivo's Online (a reliable source, trust me) reported in March that it will take an eyebrow-raising 24 years and half a billion pounds to bring Wales' roads up to scratch. If that doesn't make you do a double-take, Hawaii's annual budget for tourism is only $600 million. Guess they grow their orchids a bit slower than they fix their roads.

The Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA - undoubtedly a neutral and unbiased observer) expressed some alarm in their ALARM Survey (yep, that's what they call it). Apparently, an average Welsh road gets resurfaced once every 71 years, while experts say it should happen between 10 and 20 years apart. That's just tacky, Wales!

So, who's ready to show off their photography skills? Submit photos of the State of the Roads in Wales to [email protected] with the date and location, your name, and your phone number. Don't worry about the prize money - you won't win a jackpot, but the best images might be featured in an exhibition! Be quick about it, though - the deadline is 12 noon on Friday, July 13.

In case you were worried, competition is fierce. The National Assembly itself seems to have entered the fray, already taking shots of potholes for inspiration!

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, there's no such thing as a "pothole land" and tourists aren't rushing to see craters in the concrete yet. But hey, who knows? If this competition picks up steam, it might become the next big tourist attraction! Shovels at the ready, folks!

This unique photography competition, announced by Russel George AM, invites participants to showcase the worst of roads in Wales through their camera lenses, with the aim of shedding light on the state of the roads in the nation. The best entries might be featured in an exhibition, even potentially gaining media coverage in news, lifestyle, sports, and other sectors.
