Wakeboarding tragedy claims life of California man on Colorado River
A 50-year-old man from Fountain Valley has died while wakeboarding on the Colorado River. Hoang Nguyen lost consciousness in the water near the Windmill Resort in Earp, California. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances of the tragic incident. The accident took place on the Parker Strip, a popular stretch of the river close to the Arizona border. Nguyen was wakeboarding behind a boat when he became fatigued and released the tow rope. The vessel turned back to pick him up, but he failed to respond or grab the line.
During a second attempt to reach him, family members noticed Nguyen’s head was underwater. Someone on the boat pulled him from the river, but he was unresponsive. CPR was performed immediately before he was rushed to La Paz County Regional Hospital. Despite emergency efforts, Nguyen was pronounced dead upon arrival. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has since extended condolences to his family and loved ones.
The sheriff’s department continues to examine the details of the incident. Nguyen’s death follows a wakeboarding accident that saw him lose consciousness in the water. The investigation remains ongoing.
