Wagenknecht Alliance Shines in European Elections Outlook
Expert speculations suggest that the "Wagenknecht Alliance" has a promising horizon, especially in eastern regions. However, its participation in next year's state elections is still unclear. The alliance has expressed intentions to compete in the 2024 European elections, with candidate nominations set for the January 27 conference in Berlin.
According to Amira Mohamed Ali, Chairwoman of the "Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht" (BSW) association, the alliance is expected to field approximately 20 candidates for the European elections in June 2024. The nomination process will involve a vote at this conference.
It appears that all selected list positions could be allotted to external candidates or newly-joined party members, with the Wagenknecht group of nine MPs likely remaining in the Bundestag. However, the BSW leaders have not confirmed this, highlighting the alliance's evolving nature.
The Stance and Name Change
Wagenknecht herself clarified on Phoenix TV that the party will temporarily bear her name, but afterwards, it won't require it. The primary goal is to boost recognition. She asserts that she has no attachment to the party being named after her.
The BSW's political stance is characterized by a robust focus on social policy, serving as an advocate for employees and small to medium-sized enterprises. On social issues, such as gender self-determination laws, Wagenknecht's party chooses a more conservative approach.
The alliance, led by Wagenknecht, has departed from the Left Party, which subsequently disbanded 18 years after its inception in September 2005.

The Opening to European Elections
Wagenknecht's party poses a potential challenge to the current European Union policy landscape.
