The Argentine nation is gearing up for its 2025 legislative elections, a significant event that will see the renewal of seats in both chambers of the National Congress. Here's what you need to know about these elections.

On October 26, 2025, voters across Argentina will head to local polling stations within their respective provinces. The elections are particularly important for the province of Buenos Aires, home to around one third of the electorate. The elections will include provincial votes as well as crucial October congressional elections for half the seats in both chambers of the National Congress.

The definitive electoral roll for these elections will be available starting from Tuesday, September 16. To consult this roll, citizens are advised to access the official website, input their DNI number, gender as it appears on the document, and district, solve the security captcha, and press the "Consult" button.

However, there are certain exemptions to voting. Those who are more than 500 km from their voting location, have certified health problems, or belong to security forces on duty are exempt from voting.

The elections on October 26, 2025, will renew 127 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 24 in the Senate. Notably, these elections will be the first national legislatives to be held with a single paper ballot, approved in 2024.

For those who choose not to vote, there are consequences. Those who do not vote and do not justify their absence will be registered in the Register of Defaulters on the Duty to Vote. The economic sanction for not voting is between $50 and $500, depending on recidivism. Additionally, those who do not vote will not be able to perform transactions in public organizations nor renew documents for a year.

It's important to note that justification for not voting must be made through the National Electoral Chamber website within 60 days after the election.

Stay tuned for more updates on Argentina's 2025 legislative elections. Remember, your vote matters!
