Voting commences today for the OB position at the ballot office
The city of Münster is gearing up for a runoff election on September 28 to decide the new Mayor, following the main election results announced by the city's electoral committee. The two candidates vying for the position are Tilman Fuchs from the Green Party and Dr. Georg Lunemann from the CDU.
In the main election held earlier, Tilman Fuchs secured 41.30 percent of the votes, while Georg Lunemann received 37.28 percent. The SPD candidate, Stephan Brinktrine, came in third with 11.77 percent of the votes. A total of 162,196 citizens cast their ballots, resulting in a voter turnout of 64.80 percent.
For those eligible to vote in the runoff election, approximately 250,000 citizens, the voting office at City Hall 1 (Klemensstraße 10) will be open for in-person voting and mail-in voting applications. The office will be open on specific days and times leading up to the runoff election, with the exact schedule available on the city's website. However, it's important to note that the office will not be open on Sunday, September 28, which is the day of the runoff election.
Mail-in voting documents for the runoff election will be sent by mail to those who have applied by September 20. The application deadline for mail-in voting has passed, and documents have already been sent to those who applied by the deadline. Those who have lost their notification card can still vote with a valid ID.
The winner of the runoff election will succeed Markus Lewe as head of the city on November 1. Unfortunately, there are no search results available that provide information about the second round vote majority in the Münster mayoral election on November 1. The results of the main election were officially confirmed by the city's electoral committee in the evening.
Voters are encouraged to visit the city's website, www.stadt-muenster.de/wahlen, to find more information about the runoff election, including the voting schedule, how to apply for mail-in voting, and the voter registry for the runoff election. The upcoming runoff election will be based on the voter registry of the main election, so those who have moved to Münster after that will not be able to participate.
Stay tuned for more updates on the runoff election for the position of Mayor of Münster.
