Voting commences for the VMAs, preparations underway for the return of the award show to UBS Arena.
The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are back for another year, and this time they're happening at UBS Arena on September 7. LL COOL J will be returning as the solo host, following his co-hosting duties with Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow in 2022.
This year, the VMAs will be introducing new categories: Best Country and Best Pop Artist. The nominations for these categories, along with the rest of the categories, are now available on the VOTE.mtv.com website, where fans can cast their votes for their favourite artists.
Pop Category
In the Best Pop category, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, ROSÉ & Bruno Mars, and Sabrina Carpenter are nominated. ROSE, a first-time nominee, has landed eight nominations this year. Other first-time nominees in the Best Pop category include Alex Warren, Gigi Perez, Damiano David, Leon Thomas, Lola Young, sombr, The Marías, JENNIE, Jimin, and JISOO.
Alternative Category
The Best Alternative category sees nominations for Gigi Perez, Imagine Dragons, Lola Young, mgk & Jelly Roll, sombr, The Marías.
R&B Category
The Best R&B category features Chris Brown, Leon Thomas & Freddie Gibbs, Mariah Carey, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Summer Walker, SZA, The Weeknd, and Playboi Carti as nominees.
Hip-Hop Category
In the Best Hip-Hop category, fans can vote for Doechii, Drake, Eminem ft. Jelly Roll, GloRilla ft. Sexyy Red, Kendrick Lamar, LL COOL J ft. Eminem, and Travis Scott.
Afrobeats Category
The Best Afrobeats category nominees are Asake & Travis Scott, Burna Boy ft. Travis Scott, MOLIY, Silent Addy, Skillibeng & Shenseea, Rema, and Tems ft. Asake.
Country Category
The Best Country category has Chris Stapleton, Cody Johnson with Carrie Underwood, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Megan Moroney, and Morgan Wallen as nominees.
Rock Category
The Best Rock category nominees are Coldplay, Evanescence, Green Day, Lenny Kravitz, Linkin Park, and twenty one pilots.
Latin Category
In the Best Latin category, Bad Bunny, J Balvin, KAROL G, Peso Pluma, Rauw Alejandro & Romeo Santos, and Shakira are nominated.
K-Pop Category
The Best K-Pop category nominees are aespa, JENNIE, Jimin, JISOO, LISA ft. Doja Cat & RAYE, Stray Kids, and ROSE.
Video For Good Category
The Video For Good category nominees include Burna Boy, Charli xcx, Doechii, Eminem ft. Jelly Roll, Selena Gomez, and Zach Hood ft. Sasha Alex Sloan.
Long Form Video Category
Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny, Damiano David, Mac Miller, Miley Cyrus, and The Weeknd are nominated in the Best Long Form Video category.
MTV Push Performance of the Year
The MTV Push Performance of the Year, presented by BACARDI® Rum, is a separate category.
Song of the Year
The nominees for Song of the Year are yet to be narrowed down to six total, with the announcement expected on August 18.
Voting Details
Fans can get additional votes by voting on the @VMAs Instagram using artist-specific hashtags through Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT. Voting will remain open until Sept. 5 for all categories except for Best New Artist, which stays active into the show.
Performances
The MTV VMAs will feature performances by Bailey Zimmerman with Luke Combs, Kendrick Lamar & SZA, Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, Post Malone ft. Blake Shelton, ROSE & Bruno Mars, Selena Gomez and benny blanco.
The show will broadcast live starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS, and will also be streamed on Paramount+ in the U.S.
