Navigating through the rough seas is no piece of cake, especially when you're dealing with Mother Nature's wrath. But our man, the Jeju Coast Guard, took charge when the scheduled passenger ferry couldn't cut it due to some crappy weather.
With high swells damning any hope for the ferry services, the Coast Guard sprang into action, revving up an inshore patrol boat from the Hwasun substation and heading straight for Marado Island. They gathered four eligible voters, making sure no ballots were left behind, and trekked them across to Hwasun Port.
The vessels dropped anchor at Hwasun Port, and the Coast Guard hoofed it, ensuring the voters had a smooth ride to their polling station at Daejeong Girls’ High School in Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo. Barriers be damned, the residents of Mara Island could now vote like true patriots, thanks to the Coast Guard's lifesaving efforts.
On a side note, if you're curious, Mara Island is Korea's southernmost island, and at the time of this operation, our Coast Guard was quite the hero on the Emergency Service scene.Sources: [1], [2]
In the midst of the June 3 presidential election, politics unexpectedly intertwined with travel as the Jeju Seogwipo Coast Guard navigated through the rough seas to help Marado Island's residents vote, demonstrating their commitment not just to general-news like emergency services but also to elections. After ensuring the safety of four eligible voters, the Coast Guard transported them to Daejeong Girls’ High School in Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo, enabling them to partake in the democratic process despite the island's isolated geography.
