Vienna Coalition Agreement: Bettina Emmerling to Remain Deputy Mayor and Head Education Portfolio

Following the announcement of a renewed coalition between the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPO) and NEOS in Vienna, Bettina Emmerling has been confirmed to remain as Deputy Mayor and to head the education department. The NEOS state member assembly is set to convene on June 7th to officially endorse the agreement.

As part of the coalition, Emmerling, known for her commitment to education, will lead the education department, NEOS state spokesman and Education Minister Christoph Wiederkehr announced in a statement. The innovative educational policies that NEOS prioritized throughout their campaign and negotiations will now be under Emmerling's purview.

Negotiations have been ongoing as both parties work together to address a range of topics according to their specific business divisions. Emmerling, who currently oversees education, youth, and integration, may see her responsibilities adapt as coalition agreements are formally negotiated.

The final allocation of departmental duties will be determined in the coming days as the parties finalize their program content. The SPO, with Michael Ludwig leading the team, will work closely with NEOS representatives to integrate priorities and responsibilities into the new coalition.

Bettina Emmerling, a longtime NEOS member and former club chairwoman, previously served as Deputy Mayor after Wiederkehr's transition to federal politics. Throughout the election campaign and her tenure as Deputy Mayor, she has been a prominent and public face of the party.
