Voter ID presented by Tejashwi Yadav found to be non-existent, according to EC's verification.
In a recent development, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a notice to Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly and Rashtriy Janata Dal (RJD) leader, regarding allegations of possessing two voter IDs.
The controversy erupted after a press conference held by Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday, where he claimed that his name was missing from the voter list. However, the ECI swiftly refuted this claim, stating that his name was listed at Serial No. 416 of Polling Station No. 2, located at the library of Patna's Bihar Animal Sciences University.
The ECI released a copy of the draft electoral rolls showing Tejashwi Yadav's name, photograph, and details at serial number 416. His Epic number, RAB0456228, used in the 2015 and 2020 elections, is valid and reflected in the latest electoral roll published on August 1.
During the press conference, Tejashwi Yadav demonstrated his Epic number, which he claimed was not correctly listed in the voter list. However, the Epic number he showed, RAB29116120, is not officially issued according to the ECI.
The BJP has accused Tejashwi Yadav of keeping two EPIC numbers, while the ECI is probing the matter, and a case is being demanded by BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya.
Tejashwi Yadav has rejected the claims, stating that many names, including his supporters’, are being deliberately excluded from the electoral rolls by the ECI. He has promised to provide evidence of irregularities to the Commission and in court.
The ECI has previously refuted Tejashwi Yadav's claim that his name was missing from the draft Bihar electoral rolls. The ECI-issued letter regarding this matter was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by Patna's district administration on Sunday at 4.13 pm.
The ECI has requested Tejashwi Yadav to provide details of the voter ID card he showed in the press conference for further investigation. As of the latest information, no conclusive evidence has been publicly confirmed that Tejashwi Yadav himself provided an incorrect voter ID at the press conference. The matter remains under inquiry by the Election Commission.
The press conference was held against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise of the electoral rolls in Bihar. The ECI has called Tejashwi Yadav's allegation regarding his name missing from the electoral rolls "baseless".
- The controversy surrounding Tejashwi Yadav, a prominent Indian politician, has extended to the realm of policy-and-legislation, as the Election Commission of India (ECI) is currently investigating allegations that he possesses two voter IDs.
- In the realm of general news, Tejashwi Yadav has contested the ECI's claim that his name was correctly listed in the voter rolls, stipulating that many names, including his supporters', are being intentionally excluded from the list.
- Despite the ongoing political intrigue, the scientific process of updating the electoral rolls in India, under the watch of the ECI, continues unabated, with the Special Intensive Revision exercise currently underway in Bihar.
