In the heart of Bremen, the Strom district played host to the Senator's Cup, an unofficial championship for the city's volunteer fire departments, on August 10th. This year marked a significant change as a team from the professional fire department participated for the first time.

The event, known for its focus on fair play, saw teams competing in a fire-fighting exercise that followed specific rules, although the details of these rules remain undisclosed. Each team was tasked with laying 40 meters of hose line to a distributor, connecting a suction line, and pumping water from a container. From the distributor, they used two pipes and two hoses to overcome an obstacle.

Among the participants, the volunteer fire department Bremen-Neustadt secured the second place with a time of 91.33 seconds (including penalty points), while Bremen-Strom finished in third place with a time of 95.34 seconds. The professional fire department team, composed exclusively of department heads and leading forces around fire chief Philipp Heßemer, ended up in 13th place.

Heßemer stated that their participation was to show appreciation and togetherness to their comrades, and to strengthen their personal participation with the leadership team of the Bremen fire department. After the competition, he said it was really fun to be there.

The volunteer fire department Bremen-Seehausen emerged as the champions, completing the exercise in an impressive 73.49 seconds without any mistakes. Senator of the Interior Ulrich Mäurer was present at the awards ceremony for the Senator's Cup 2024.
