Volta Region Launches Digital Outsourcing Hub with Drone Training

The Volta Region is set to become a digital outsourcing hub in West Africa, thanks to an innovative initiative led by MP Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah. The project, launched in partnership with Awudome Senior High School in Tsito, aims to empower local youth with 21st-century technological skills using cutting-edge tools like custom-built drones and 3D printers.

At the heart of this initiative is a custom-built drone designed for land mapping. Capable of flying up to 120 metres, this drone will be used as part of the training programme. The project also involves procuring 100 laptops to ensure practical, hands-on learning for the participants.

The ultimate goal is to tackle youth unemployment and position the Volta Region as a centre for digital outsourcing. Participants will receive training in drone piloting, 3D modelling, coding, virtual reality, website development, and entrepreneurship. The Ho West District Assembly has shown interest in engaging participants for mapping projects to support property rate collection.

The initiative has received widespread support. Ho Central MP Edem Kofi Kpotosu and Ho West District Chief Executive Francis Profer Dusey have both praised the project. Despite receiving over 500 applications for the 2025 Ho West Annual Tech Fair, only 200 participants were selected due to limited resources.

With the support of local leaders and the community, the initiative is poised to transform the Volta Region into an ICT hub. By equipping young people with relevant technological skills, the project aims to create job opportunities and drive economic growth in the region.
