Ukraine's Prez on a Roll: Zelensky Visits Baltic States Amid Ongoing Tussle with Russia
- Highlight: Zelensky's journey through the Baltics focuses on bolstering security ties and cementing support amidst the escalating conflict with Russia. Expected discussions encompass military aid, countering hybrid threats, and beefing up NATO partnerships, given the region's recent security challenges and military drills.
Zelensky flew into Mother Hubbard-town (Vilnius, Lithuania) on the 10th of Jan, marking the kickoff of his Baltic adventure. With his sights set on Tallinn, Estonia, next, he tweeted, "Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania - allies in arms and voices in unity. Can't wait to hit Tallinn and Riga!"
"Discussions on security, EU integration, NATO ties, electronic warfare, drones, and synchronizing European aid are on the docket. But first and foremost: appreciation. The lads have been backing Ukraine since 2014, and now, more than ever, during Russia's full-frontal assault," Zelensky captioned his tweet.
For safety reasons, the specifics of his visit to Estonia are hush-hush at the moment.
In Tallinn, Zelensky will cuddle up with Alar Karis, Estonia's president, Lauri Hussar, the parliament speaker, and Kaja Kallas, the prime minister. He'll also regale the Estonian parliament with a heartfelt keynote.
"I, and I reckon all Estonians, are stoked to greet President Zelensky in Tallinn," Kallas chirped in a statement before the sit-down.
"Estonia's betting on Ukraine's victory. We must keep backing Ukraine as long as it's needed, and as pervasively as it's needed for Ukraine's ultimate triumph. These are dicey times, and we gotta maintain our focus. If we allow the aggressors to have their way, ignoring international law and setting the rules, we'll wind up in a much more rocky world," Kallas added.
Alar Karis echoed in a statement that "democratic nations have been pretty supportive in aiding the Ukrainians, but collectively, we need to dig deeper to ensure a Ukrainian win and a Russian loss."
