Wirtz's retention desired by Volle at Bayer Leverkusen - Völler advocates for Wirtz's continued tenure at Bayer.

Florian Wirtz's future remains unclear as speculation persists about his potential move away from Bayer Leverkusen. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who is contracted with Leverkusen until June 2027, has been linked with several top clubs, including Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

Rudi Voeller, the sports director of the German Football Association (DFB), spoke about Wirtz's future at a recent event in Berlin. Voeller, who was formerly the CEO of Bayer 04 Leverkusen, expressed his preference for the player to stay with the Werkself for another year before a possible departure. However, he did not disclose any details about ongoing negotiations with potential suitors.

Reports suggest that Liverpool has made an official bid for Wirtz, with a package exceeding €100 million (£83.9m). Personal terms with the player are said to have been agreed, but discussions with Leverkusen are ongoing. It is understood that the bid includes potential add-ons and there are discussions about a possible swap deal to lower the upfront cash payment.

Liverpool's chances of securing Wirtz's services have improved following his change of heart about staying in Germany. With the Premier League champions recently celebrating their title victory, the Reds are aiming to finalize the transfer soon.

Voeller believes Wirtz's performances for the German national team at the Final Four of the Nations League will not be affected by the transfer speculation. The German team will convene in Herzogenaurach on May 30 to prepare for the tournament, with the semifinal against Portugal scheduled for June 4 in Munich.

Rudi Voeller, the DFB sports director, expressed his desire for Wirtz to stay with Leverkusen for another year, indicating a potential stay amidst ongoing negotiations.
