Pötsch to stay VW top supervisor - Volkswagen backs Pötsch for another term as supervisory board chairman
Volkswagen's supervisory board has nominated Hans Dieter Pötsch for another term as its chairman. The proposal comes as the automaker prepares for its annual general meeting in June. Shareholders will now decide whether to extend his leadership role.
Pötsch first joined Volkswagen in 2003 as chief financial officer. After twelve years in that position, he took over as chairman of the supervisory board in autumn 2015. Since then, he has steered the company through major changes, including the fallout from the Dieselgate scandal.
Under his leadership, Volkswagen launched its 'TOGETHER – Strategy 2025' in 2016. The plan aimed to introduce 80 battery-electric vehicles by 2025 and invest €35 billion in electrification. The company also pushed digitalisation by creating its software unit, Cariad, and forming partnerships, such as the recent deal with Rivian in 2024.
Expansion into key markets like China, North America, and India has also been a priority. Despite supply chain disruptions and industry challenges, Pötsch has maintained a focus on growth and innovation. His re-election, if approved, would allow him to continue guiding Volkswagen through ongoing transformations.
The final vote on his reappointment will take place at the annual general meeting on June 18. Shareholders will determine whether he remains in the role for another term.
Pötsch's potential re-election would mark over a decade at the helm of Volkswagen's supervisory board. His tenure has seen major shifts in strategy, from electrification to global expansion. The decision now rests with shareholders at the upcoming meeting.
