Vladivostok’s flash flood freezes into treacherous ice sheets overnight
A stretch of road near the Lugovostok shopping centre in Vladivostok has been severely flooded after heavy rainfall. The sudden drop in temperature caused the water to freeze, creating hazardous ice patches for drivers and pedestrians alike. Emergency crews have now been called in to address the issue.
The flooding occurred at the turnoff toward Svetlanskaya Street, an area known for frequent waterlogging during heavy rains. This time, the rapid temperature shift turned standing water into thick ice, blocking parts of the road and sidewalks.
Primorsky Vodokanal has sent an emergency team to repair the leak causing the flood. Once the source is fixed, road services will apply anti-icing materials to prevent further hazards. The affected section remains difficult to navigate, with vehicles struggling to pass and pedestrians at risk of slipping. Authorities have urged caution until the situation is fully resolved.
Repairs are now underway to stop the leak and clear the ice. Road crews will then treat the area to prevent refreezing. The incident highlights ongoing challenges with drainage in this flood-prone part of Vladivostok.
