Vladivostok floods with tulips as Women's Day demand spikes prices to $6.50
Vladivostok is preparing for International Women's Day with a surge in flower imports. Over 423,000 tulips have arrived in Primorye Territory since January, alongside lilies, daffodils, and mimosa. Prices for a single tulip now range from 270 rubles ($3) to 600 rubles ($6.50) due to high demand.
The bulk of the flowers entered the region through Vladivostok International Airport. Between March 1 and 5 alone, 188,400 tulips were delivered. Most of these shipments originated from the Moscow Region, which supplied 123,300 tulips. China contributed a smaller batch of 18,600 tulips.
Since early 2024, Primorye has also imported 1.2 million tulips from the Netherlands. The Dutch shipments included 500,000 lilies, 300,000 daffodils, and 200,000 chrysanthemums. For the March 8 celebrations, nearly 9,000 mimosa branches were added to the stock.
Across Vladivostok, 44 authorised retail points now sell fresh flowers. Demand has pushed prices up, with peak-season tulips costing as much as 600 rubles each.
The influx of flowers ensures a wide selection for shoppers ahead of the holiday. Tulips remain the most popular choice, with prices fluctuating based on supply and demand. Local retailers continue to stock imports from Russia, the Netherlands, and China to meet customer needs.
