Renowned Actor Vladimir Safronov Laid to Rest
Vladimir Safronov, a celebrated Russian actor and People's Artist of Russia, was laid to rest on August 9, 2020, at the Dolgoprudny Cemetery. The ceremony was attended by colleagues, students, and acquaintances, who paid their respects to the man known for his lifelong dedication to creativity and his significant contributions to Russian theater.
Born on November 1, 1940, in Moscow, Safronov's passion for theater led him to attend the Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre School, from which he graduated in 1962. His career began at the First Moscow Regional Drama Theater, where he worked for three years before moving to the Pushkin Theater in 1965. Since 1972, he was a member of the troupe of the State Academic Maly Theater, where he performed for decades and also worked as a teacher.
Over his illustrious career, Safronov played around 60 roles, including works by Russian playwright Alexander Ostrovsky and historical productions. His professional achievements were recognized with significant honors: he was named Honored Artist of the RSFSR in 1982 and later awarded the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation in 2006. In 1997, he received the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree, and in 2020 he was awarded a presidential commemorative medal and a letter of thanks from the Russian Minister of Culture.
Safronov was renowned as a great master of acting and a unique teacher, leaving a lasting legacy at the Maly Theater. His colleagues admired his lifelong curiosity, zest for life, and dedication to creativity. He passed away on August 5, 2020, in Moscow at the age of 84.
The Maly Theater publicly mourned his death, highlighting his contribution to Russian theater and his importance to the company. A farewell ceremony was held at the Maly Theatre on August 9, where a wreath was placed on Safronov's grave by his colleagues from the State Academic Maly Theatre of Russia. Colleagues and students of Safronov also sent funeral wreaths. The placement of the wreath was reported by TASS, a Russian state-owned news agency.
Safronov will be remembered not only for his exceptional acting skills but also for his dedication to the art of theater and his impact on the next generation of actors. His legacy will continue to inspire and influence Russian theater for years to come.
