Vitali-Haye match may take some time to materialize
Tomorrow night, heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko will step into the ring once again, this time to defend his title against Dereck Chisora. Klitschko, who has been the WBC champion since his return to boxing in 2008, is aiming for an impressive win against the British contender.
Their first encounter took place in February 2012, a fight that Klitschko won by unanimous decision despite reportedly injuring his shoulder during the bout. Chisora, who is Zimbabwe-born and 28 years old, was seen as a tough opponent, and the fight reinforced Klitschko's status as a dominant heavyweight champion.
Klitschko expects a better fight from Chisora this time around, stating that he believes Chisora is more aggressive than his previous opponent, Wladimir Klitschko. He also believes that Chisora has a better fighting style than David Haye, whom he continues to express his desire to fight.
Haye, who lost his WBA heavyweight title to Wladimir Klitschko in July 2011, has yet to agree terms for a fight with Vitali. Klitschko claims that Haye often finds excuses for why fights do not happen. Despite retiring in October, Haye is reportedly ready to fight again if a deal can be made for a fight with Vitali or a rematch with Wladimir.
The history between these fighters includes the 2012 Vitali Klitschko vs. Dereck Chisora fight, where Klitschko successfully defended his title. Chisora was seen as a tough British contender, and David Haye was connected as an observer and predictor of Chisora’s career trajectory. Klitschko's win was decisive despite the injury, showing his dominance in the heavyweight division at the time.
Klitschko hopes to fight David Haye after Dereck Chisora, if Haye changes his mind. He is proud of holding the same title that Muhammad Ali once held and encourages Haye to fight for the world title. For now, however, Klitschko is focused on the Dereck Chisora fight and expects the contest to not go the distance.
As the fight approaches, fans are eager to see if Klitschko can maintain his reign as the WBC champion and if Chisora can prove to be a tougher opponent this time around. Only time will tell if Klitschko's expectations for a better fight from Chisora will come to fruition.
