Reinventing Remembrance: A Million Stories Strong on the Immortal Regiment Site

"May 9th - RIA Tomsk." The People's Chronicle of the Great Patriotic War on the site "Immortal Regiment," where users since 2012 have saved memories of their ancestors, now houses over a million family histories, according to a Friday statement from the "Immortal Regiment" Telegram channel.

Previously, it was reported that the first "Immortal Regiment" event took place in Tomsk in 2012 due to the initiative of local journalists. On Victory Day, city residents stood in lines with portraits of their frontline family members. Over time, the movement was supported by millions of residents from various regions and countries. Since 2012, the website moypolk.ru has also been operational, where the family histories of Great Patriotic War veterans are stored.

"Today is a special day. The millionth page has appeared in the People's Chronicle of the Immortal Regiment. We don't know who placed the 'jubilee' story or to whom it was dedicated - to a grandpa-soldier, a grandma-blockade worker, or a local-laborer in the rear, but it doesn't matter. The role is not in numbers, but it's symbolic that the threshold of 1 million stories fell on Victory Day," a message reads.

It's emphasized that despite the vast number of stories, the Great Patriotic War affected tens of millions of people: "It would be fair and just to record every name in the People's Chronicle to preserve the memories of descendants."

"The People's Chronicle of the Warrior: Stories of Tomsk residents from the Immortal Regiment site" "We promise to carefully preserve this memory - the names, faces, and lives of soldiers, workers of the rear, blockaders, prisoners of concentration camps... All, who felt the fierce sweep of the army's onslaught. And we'd also like to express our thanks to everyone who donated any meaningful sum - the Immortal Regiment's site exists only thanks to your financial support," the channel announces.
