Virginia Allocates $12M in School Security Grants Affecting 433 Schools
Virginia has allocated $12 million in School Security Equipment Grants to bolster safety in 433 public schools across 99 school divisions in the 2025 cycle. This brings the total security infrastructure investments to $60 million since fiscal year 2022, benefiting a total of 1,132 schools statewide.
The grants, ranging from just under $6,000 to $250,000, were awarded through a competitive process that prioritized schools with higher offense rates, identified equipment gaps, limited local resources, and overall safety needs. The funding cap per school division is set at $250,000. Among the recipients, Alleghany Highlands Public Schools received $163,916. The approved equipment categories include voice and video communication systems, mass notification systems, security card access, surveillance cameras, secure vestibules, and two-way radios. This wide-ranging support ensures a broad geographic distribution of security funding throughout Virginia.
The 2025 grant cycle demonstrates Virginia's commitment to enhancing school safety and security. With $12 million allocated, 433 schools across 99 divisions will benefit, bringing the total investment since fiscal year 2022 to $60 million. This comprehensive approach aims to create safer learning environments for students and educators statewide.
