Viral Video Shows Quokkas Raiding Tent for Bread on Rottnest Island

A video capturing a quokka's unusual behaviour on Rottnest Island has gone viral on TikTok, with over 608,000 views. The footage shows the marsupial munching on a loaf of bread inside a tent, causing chaos and leaving a mess. The incident involved at least three quokkas rummaging through belongings in a tent at a campsite. The Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) has reminded visitors that leaving food outside of sealed coolers is prohibited, as it attracts these vulnerable creatures. Feeding quokkas is illegal and can be harmful to their health. The quokkas left behind poo droppings scattered on sleeping bags, causing a mess for the campers. The RIA has advised against leaving food in tents to protect both campers and quokkas. The viral video serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to the rules set by the RIA to protect quokkas and ensure a harmonious coexistence with visitors on Rottnest Island. With approximately 10,000 quokkas calling the island home, it's crucial for campers to respect their habitat and follow the guidelines.
