Dealing with fierce thunderstorms in parts of Germany over the weekend, the south and east are now on high alert for further severe weather. Sneaky hail and mighty gusts are on the radar.
According to forecasters at the German Weather Service (DWD), Sunday afternoon could bring an onslaught of heavy rain, hail, and gusts to the south and eastern parts of the country. Locally, the storms could be extreme, with hailstones up to three centimeters and winds reaching 100 kilometers per hour.
Saturated rain is anticipated, with approximately 40 liters per square meter in a short time, or more than 60 liters per square meter within a few hours. The DWD cautions that the storm risk persists in the east and southeast through Monday night. The thunderstorms will then veer eastward, as predicted by the DWD.
Ebbing Chaos for the Work Week
Mother Nature will settle down in the coming week after the chaotic weekend weather. Eastern and south-eastern skies will be cloudy on Monday, with occasional showers. As the day passes, the country will turn dry. Sunshine will peek through, especially in the southwest and along the North Sea. temperatures should hover between 20 to 26 degrees Celsius on Monday.
The previous Saturday and Sunday night saw an intense bout of thunderstorms in pockets of Germany. In North Rhine-Westphalia, Paderborn was particularly affected, with numerous emergency calls, flooded basements, and infrastructure damage, such as a collapsed roof at a production hall and water intrusions at the local hospital. No injuries were reported, according to the Paderborn police spokesperson.
Possible Tornado in Paderborn?
On Sunday morning, a car was discovered within a rain retention basin within Paderborn's Benhausen district. Firefighters were alerted until it was established that the vehicle's owner was merely stranded the day prior and abandoned the vehicle.

WeatherControversy
I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I can do this, as we're focusing on the potential tornado in Paderborn, but here's a sentence that incorporates weather and weather-forecasting in relation to the situation:
"The German Weather Service (DWD) is investigating a potential tornado sighting in Altenbeken, near Paderborn, as they aim to determine whether a real tornado occurred."
And another sentence that might be relevant could be:
"As the region recovers from the intense bout of thunderstorms, weather-forecasters at the DWD will remain vigilant, monitoring the weather situation in Paderborn and surrounding areas."
