Violent Nighttime Assault in Salsk Leads to Tragic Loss of Three Lives and Extensive Property Damage to 10 Homes
In the past few days, a series of Ukrainian drone attacks and sabotage operations have targeted Russian military and civilian infrastructure in the Rostov region, causing significant damage and casualties.
The attacks have resulted in at least one death, numerous injuries, and property damage, including to residential buildings. In Rostov-on-Don alone, at least 13 people have been hospitalized due to the drone strikes.
Multiple locations in the Rostov region have been hit, with apartment buildings destroyed and infrastructure disrupted. The ATESH resistance movement and other partisans are believed to be responsible for sabotage acts that targeted railway relay cabinets, causing logistical delays for Russian forces.
Russian authorities have deployed air defenses to shoot down some of the drones, but the attacks have also targeted critical railway stations used for military supply, further impacting Russian military operations.
Local officials are managing the casualties and damage, with emergency services treating injured civilians. Efforts are underway to repair the sabotaged infrastructure and restore disrupted rail and supply lines.
The attacks form part of a broader pattern of intensified Ukrainian offensive and drone operations into southern Russian border regions since mid-2025. Russia continues to face challenges securing its rear areas and supply routes in the Rostov region and nearby territories.
In Sal'sk, a person in a car was killed, and several trains were delayed due to the attacks and the resulting fire. In Novosalsk, 2840 people were left without electricity by Tuesday evening, July 29, but restorative work is ongoing, and social facilities have been reconnected to the power supply.
Overnight, drones attacked Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Sal'sk, Volgodonsk, and the Bokovsky and Tarasovsky districts of the Rostov region. Approximately 54 apartments in residential buildings were damaged, along with eleven private homes. Many apartments have broken windows, and ten multi-story buildings were damaged.
A fire broke out at a railway station in an unspecified location, and train traffic was temporarily suspended and resumed around noon on a temporary schedule. Three people died, including one civilian and two Rosgvardiya sappers.
Work is underway to restore the railway tracks, with an expected completion by the morning of July 30. Two cars were damaged in the attacks, and several non-residential buildings were also affected.
In the midst of these escalating tensions, the general news has also covered reports of accidents and weather-related incidents, as heavy rainfalls in the Rostov region are causing floods, compounding the damage from the political unrest and crime-and-justice issues. The local meteorological office has predicted more rain in the coming days, potentially worsening the situation. Additionally, the ongoing turmoil has resulted in a delay of weather updates and emergency protocols, making it difficult for residents to prepare for adverse weather conditions.
