A nightmarish incident unfolded in North Macedonia's nightlife scene when a blaze erupted during a concert at Club Pulse in Kocani, east of Skopje. The death toll currently stands at an alarming 59, and many more remain injured.

The tragedy occurred upon the ignition of pyrotechnics during a performance, which sparked a fire that quickly engulfed the wooden beams on the ceiling. This fire caused the venue to partially collapse, propagating the spread of the inferno.

According to media outlets, initial reports indicate that the nightclub was hosting over 1500 attendees, far exceeding its maximum capacity of 250 people. With only one exit accessible for evacuation, chaos ensued.

As the authorities investigate this devastating incident, allegations of corruption and bribery involving local officials who allowed the nightclub to operate illegally despite lacking adequate safety measures have surfaced. Several high-profile individuals have been apprehended or are being questioned in connection with the incident.

Preliminary inspections have revealed numerous safety code violations at the nightclub, including a deficient number of emergency exits, insufficient fire extinguishers, and improper access for emergency vehicles.

In response to this horrific event, the North Macedonian government has declared seven days of mourning and ordered an extensive nationwide inspection of all nightclubs and cabarets to ensure safety regulations are adhered to. Protestors in Kocani and Skopje have also gathered, demanding justice and accountability.
