US Congressman Marlin Stutzman Slams Damascus Church Bombing
The tragic incident at Saint Elias Greek Orthodox Church in the Dweila neighbourhood marked a dark day for the region. A suicide bomber entered the church and opened fire when prayers tried to stop him. Despite efforts to remove him, he detonated his explosives, claiming the lives of numerous worshippers.
Syria's interior ministry identified the attacker as having connections to the Islamic State (IS). However, the group neither accepted nor denied responsibility for the bombing. The death toll currently stands at 22, with at least 59 people injured.
Marlin Stutzman, former US Representative and Republican, expressed his condolences, stating on social media, "Praying for Syria after the horrific terror attack in Damascus today." He accused the attack of being unspeakably cowardly, stating that targeting innocent people based on their faith is inexcusable. He firmly believed that the New Syrian government would bring those involved to justice.
Health Ministry Reassures Injured Victims
Syria's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi, and Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Hussein Al-Khatib, offered reassurance for the health of those injured in the terror attack on St. Elias Church in the Dweileh area of Damascus, according to SANA news reporting on Monday morning.
