Violent Assault in Kharkiv Leaves Three Dead, 17 Injured, and Extensive Damage
In the wee hours of June 7, a colossal barrage from Russian forces ravaged Kharkiv with kamikaze drones, precision-guided aerial bombs, and rockets. This relentless assault claimed two lives, wounded 17, including two kids.
Word from Oleh Synyehubov, the head of Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, and Ihor Terekhov, the city's mayor, paints a grim picture. On this day, the enemy, using 53 "Shahed" drones, four guided aerial bombs, and one rocket, pummeled Kharkiv's Kievsky and Saltivsky districts.
In the Kievsky district, the enemy’s wrath was directed at a civilian facility, resulting in a blaze that engulfed 10,000 square meters. Four workshop buildings were reduced to rubble, potentially trapping people beneath the debris.
In the Saltivsky district, a drone struck a nine-story residential building, igniting fires that consumed 12 apartments on the 7th, 8th, and 9th floors, amounting to a total of 600 square meters. Rescue workers managed to extract a wounded woman from the rubble, whereas two cars met a similar fate. The devastation extended to this district, resulting in three fatalities and 17 injuries.
Terekhov reported that 18 multi-apartment buildings endured damage, with structural concerns in three of them, and 13 private homes were harmed.
Leaving scorched earth on the outskirts of Kharkiv, three "Shaheds" torched an abandoned cow shed, while five drones wrecked an open area.
This brutal barrage, part of a large-scale drone and missile onslaught, represents one of the most powerful attacks on Kharkiv since the full-scale invasion commenced in 2022. The magnitude of the attack was such that Ukraine's Air Force reported Russian forces launching a total of 215 missiles and drones that night, with Ukrainian air defenses managing to shoot down 87 drones and seven missiles. Other regions, including Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Ternopil, were also targeted. Yet, Kharkiv emerged as the primary battleground in this aerial onslaught.
