All-Peaceful Gathering Ensues for PSG in Paris Months After Disruption - Violence Erupts in Paris: Yesterday's Unrest

The triumphant fans of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) didn't let the excitement of their 5-0 win against Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Munich on Sunday wane as they continued their celebrations into the night.

Upon their return to the City of Light, the PSG players had planned to drive through the Champs-Élysées in a bus, greeted by an estimated 100,000 jubilant fans. Yet, the sonorous cheers of victory were soon overshadowed by a chaotic night of riots and two heart-wrenching tragedies.

Night of Horror

The preceding evening, the joyous atmosphere took a disastrous turn. In Dax, a 17-year-old fan was brutally stabbed to death during celebrations for the Parisian club, while terror struck once more in Paris, as a young man tragically lost his life in a motorbike accident caused by a collision with a car. In total, 491 people were arrested in Paris during clashes between the police and rowdy fans, with 559 arrests made nationwide.

Trophy Showcase and Security Measures

After the tragic incidents, the planned reception at the Élysée Palace with President Emmanuel Macron was still set to take place. The players then intended to share their triumph with their devoted fans at their stadium, the Parc des Princes, where they were set to unveil their well-earned trophy. Reportedly, security measures for this event were to be notably stringent.
