Vinyl enthusiasts flock to Sunset Strip on Saturday for a nostalgic fair
The West Coast music scene is set to light up with two exciting events this August. On the 14th, the iconic Blue Note jazz club will open its doors, featuring Robert Glasper for two sets each Thursday and Friday. But if you're a vinyl enthusiast, your attention should be on two upcoming events: Spinning Sunset and VinylCon.
First, let's talk about Spinning Sunset. On Saturday, August 13th, from 1 to 7 pm, the Sunset Strip Business Improvement District is hosting a free vinyl fair. Over 40 record vendors, including In Sheep's Clothing, Vinyldigs, and Helix Sounds, will be present, offering a diverse range of records and vintage finds. Performers such as Dino Soccio, El Decomicio, Chulita Vinyl Club, Adrian Younge, and Mayer Hawthorne will take the stage, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The event is family-friendly and will feature vinyl DJ sets, brand activations, and approximately 55 booths from local record stores and vintage vendors. If you're having trouble finding a particular record, Spinning Sunset might just be the place to look. And if you're lucky, you might even stumble upon some booths from Spinning Sunset's counterpart, VinylCon, which is taking place Aug. 23 and 24 at the California Market Center in DTLA. With more than 80 vendors, it's a great place to find that elusive record if it's not found at Spinning Sunset.
The after-party for Spinning Sunset is taking place at Hotel Ziggy, featuring a vinyl DJ set by Dirty Dave and free live music show, Zap Sessions, powered by Beach Party Records. Hotel Ziggy's after-party is free to attend and goes from 6 to 9 pm, followed by Zap Sessions from 9 pm to 1 am, which requires RSVP.
The former "Riot House" hotel, now known as Andaz West Hollywood, will be hosting the official happy hour for Spinning Sunset. Meanwhile, businesses like Hotel Ziggy, Andaz West Hollywood, Book Soup, Riot House restaurant, Sunset House LA, and Sunset Marquis will offer discounts, vinyl-themed specials, and pop-ups throughout the day.
To enter the giveaway, guests must take a photo at the fair and tag @thesunsetstrip on Instagram. Prizes include a one-night stay and breakfast for two at the Mondrian, drinks for two at the hotel's Skybar, gift cards to WeHo restaurants, and complimentary bottle service and entry to Keys nightclub.
As part of the district's annual Summer on Sunset initiative, both Spinning Sunset and VinylCon are not to be missed for music lovers and vinyl collectors alike. So, mark your calendars and get ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of music and vinyl on the Sunset Strip this August!
