Top Bowlers Shine in Sugbuanon Bowlers United 2025 Season
The Sugbuanon Bowlers United (SugBU) 2025 season has seen some remarkable performances across divisions A, B, and C. Arthur Tapaya, Feben Landazabal, Johna Calipay, Mabs Villamin, and others have been standout performers.
In Division A, Arthur Tapaya won the crown and the SUGBU Shootout Tournament held on August 17, 2025, with a four-game total of 861 pinfalls and 179 pinfalls in the championship shootout round. Tapaya's first title win has solidified his status as an elite bowler. Edgar Alqueza, the SUGBU president, finished second in the Division A qualifiers with 857 pinfalls, while Heber Alqueza placed third with 780 pinfalls. Ted Convocar finished second in Division A with 790 pinfalls, and Jomar Jumapao completed the top 5 with 714 pinfalls.
In Division B, Mabs Villamin claimed his first-ever SUGBU shootout title on August 10, 2025, with 188 pinfalls (including handicap) and led the qualifiers with 793 pinfalls. Jay Phillimore placed third with 762 pinfalls, and Feben Landazabal finished second with 764 pinfalls. Lemuel Paquibot completed the top 5 in Division B with 715 pinfalls, and Steve Bahani finished fourth with 757 pinfalls. Frenzy Williams led Division C with 710 total pinfalls and finished second in the SugBU Sunday Shootout with 158 pins. Bebie Mauro finished fourth in Division C with 598 total pinfalls, and Flor Hodgkinson completed the top 5 with 595 total pinfalls.
In Division C, Johna Calipay dominated with a 719 four-game total and placed third in the championship shootout event with 154 pinfalls including handicap points. Romy Mauro finished second with 661 total pinfalls, and Steph Maquiling placed third with 608 total pinfalls.
Notable bowlers Mabin Villamin Jr. and Terence "TBonz" Williams, who are husband and wife, also made their mark in the season. Mabin Villamin Jr. spent months competing in weekly events in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro City to sharpen his form. He delivered a decisive 188-pin game in the final shootout to secure the Bowler of the Week title. TBonz led Division A with an 803 four-game aggregate and placed third in the SugBU Sunday Shootout with 151 pins. SugBU's Joma Avila and Danny Sabang represented SugBU in the Datba Kadayawan Open, with Avila bagging second runner-up honours in the Mixed Classified Division.
As the SugBU 2025 season progresses, these top bowlers continue to demonstrate their skills and determination, making for an exciting finale to the tournament.
