Prepare for some shake-ups in the German ice hockey scene as the reigning champs, Eisbaeren Berlin, have snagged their first fresh face for the upcoming battle on the ice. They've signed Markus Vikingstad, previously of their league rivals, Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven. Vikingstad will be swapping the Old Weser for the Spree, having put pen to paper on a three-year deal.
The 25-year-old Norwegian-German sensation is a national team player himself, prepping to make his third appearance at the World Championship with Norway. He first strapped on the skates for the Stavanger Oilers in Norway's highest league back in 2016. Since moving to Bremerhaven in 2021, he's impressively netted 89 points (36 goals, 53 assists) in 219 DEL games.
But don't think the party's over just yet for the Eisbaeren faithful! Following the championship jubilations, the club announced the contract extensions of several players, including goaltending duo Jake Hildebrand and Jonas Stettmer, defenders Adam Smith, Mitch Reinke, and Markus Niemelainen, and top scorer Ty Ronning. The delighted Ty signed a new two-year deal, while Blaine Byron and Eric Hoerdler have extended their contracts by one season each.
